^Um, hey. Not sure if this is a sensitive subject for you...
But like, what we're doing here...
This is illegal right?
>Oh yeah!=C31-2
>Hmm, you might be right.=C31-2

~C31-2
^Heh, yeah.
Secret genetic testing resulting in mass destruction?
Definitely illegal.
>Are we the bad guys?=C31-2-1
>At least it pays well.=C31-2-2

~C31-2-1
^I'm not sure...
I've been thinking about it.
And like, the law is kind of a really bad gauge for what is right and wrong...
>But laws are at the core for differentiating between right and wrong.=C31-3-1
>What do you mean exactly?=C31-3-2

~C31-2-2
^It does.
And more than that, I'm not totally sure that the law is such a great gauge for what is right and wrong anyway...
>But laws are at the core for differentiating between right and wrong.=C31-3-1
>What do you mean exactly?=C31-3-2

~C31-3-1
^Laws are at the core of keeping order, and having consistent rules.
But the overlap of common morality and the law can be arbitrary at times...
Not to mention that laws typically benefit those with money... seems like a conflict of interest.
>But committing a crime like murder will always be wrong.=C31-3-1-1
>How does someone with money benefit?=C31-3-1-2

~C31-3-2
^I don't mean that laws aren't important.
But there's a lot of bias and out-dated thinking behind a lot of it.
Like the overlap of common morality and the law can be arbitrary at times...
>But committing a crime like murder will always be wrong.=C31-3-1-1
>I guess some laws don't make any sense.=C31-3-2-1

~C31-3-1-1
^Yeah, murder is a clearer case. But what about possession of drugs? Should that give you years in prison?
If you're rich, you can get your drugs more safely, and pay lawyers if anything ever does happen.
That seems like imbalanced justice to me.
>Maybe people shouldn't commit the crime if they can't do the time.=C31-4-1
>That does seem unfair.=C31-4-2

~C31-3-1-2
^The easiest way to challenge a law is with a well-paid team of lawyers, which most people can't afford.
But if you get caught in possession of illegal drugs and you don't have money for a lawyer, you could go to jail for years. Or worse.
>Maybe people shouldn't commit the crime if they can't do the time.=C31-4-1
>That does seem unfair.=C31-4-2

~C31-3-2-1
^They don't! And we're constantly being forced to re-evaluate our legal system. It wasn't long ago that there were laws limiting the rights of people based on the colour of their skin or their gender... hell, there still are!
>But we still need laws to function as a society. We can't just give them all up.=C31-5-1
>Then how do we challenge the laws that don't make sense?=C31-5-2

~C31-4-1
^I know what you mean, but many people are struggling to survive, and breaking the law might be their best option. It's kind of messed up that we wait for people to get that desperate before we decide to intervene, by throwing them in jail.
>But without laws, society would be a total mess.=C31-5-1
>Ah, that is kind of messed up.=C31-4-2

~C31-4-2
^It wasn't long ago that there were laws limiting the rights of people based on the colour of their skin or their gender... hell, there still are!
>Even so, we need laws to function as a society. We can't just give them all up.=C31-5-1
>Then how do we challenge the laws that don't make sense?=C31-5-2

~C31-5-1
^That's true. But we need to question laws as a society too. Think about who is benefitting or suffering from any given law. We can't just follow them blindly.
&C31-6

~C31-5-2
^I think people are doing it every day. You might just not realize it if the law doesn't affect you directly. But my point is, we need to think about who is benefitting or suffering from any given law. We can't just follow them blindly.
&C31-6

~C31-6
^All that being said, I don't think there's any way to morally justify the work we do here.
It's definitely illegal...
But uh... I guess I'm just a criminal now.
Oh well.
