^So last night I was laying in bed with my partner, and we started talking about the titans, and out of nowhere, they asked me if I believed in God. It seemed like such a strange question at the time, but now I can’t get it out of my head.
>That is strange. Why did they ask you that? Shouldn’t they already know the answer?=C27-1-1
>Well, do you? Believe in God, that is.=C27-2-1

C27-1-1
^We have both always identified as agnostic, although I know they grew up in a very religious household. The conversation started getting a bit argumentative and then they blurted out that I was “playing God” by making the titans.
>That’s heavy. I guess that takes the science versus religion debate to a whole new level. I always felt that we were testing nature a bit, but God is more complicated...=C27-1-1-1
>Well, if you are a person that believes in God, it’s hard to reconcile with the science we are doing. Things that are happening here are very questionable.=C27-1-1-2

~C27-1-1-1
^It is very complicated. I haven’t really thought about a higher power in this process. But if the titans are the most advanced entity, and we are creating them, then I guess we are taking on a God-like role.
>I don’t think we should be interpreting it that way. It seems a bit dangerous .=C27-1-1-3
>So many different scientific advancements have already been playing God. Think about in vitro fertilization, cloning, even organ transplants. We are past the point of return.=C27-1-1-4

~C27-1-1-2
^You really feel that way? What about our work is questionable?
>I’ve never told anyone this, but I feel like the titans aren’t compatible for this world. This all seems so unnatural.=C27-1-1-5
>I guess I really do believe in a higher power and hearing that we are playing God really struck a chord. It’s hard to not feel uneasy about it all.=C27-1-1-6

~C27-1-1-3
^After our conversation in bed last night, I do feel like something is off. I can’t put my finger on it, but I’m starting to question our motives here.

~C27-1-1-4
^You’re right. I think they might be a bit uncomfortable with my involvement in this project, and adding religion to the conversation made things seem a bit more abstract. I think this is less about religion and more about ethics.

~C27-1-1-5
^Ya, I guess I have thoughts like that too..

~C27-1-1-6
^I disagree. What we are doing is groundbreaking and important. Don’t get all in your head.

~C27-2-1
^I guess I believe in something. I never thought about a higher power in relation to the titans. In some way the titans feel unnatural, but in another way, they seem like a new dominating force in the world. Perhaps they can rid us of some of our worst societal issues.
>What kind of issues?=C27-2-1-1
>I don’t see the titans helping us in any way...=C27-2-1-2

~C27-2-1-1
^Well, for one thing, organized religion. Who will have time for that when the titans are marching along and destroying everything in sight.
>As long as there are humans on this earth, there will be religion.=C27-2-1-3
>I didn’t know you were so against religion.=C27-2-1-4

~C27-2-1-2
^Then why are we making them? Why are we here?
>That’s an excellent question. I guess you could say we are playing God. We are molding what the future looks like, and the future looks grim.=C27-2-1-5
>I think what we are doing is important. We aren’t playing God, we are advancing science.=C27-2-1-6

~C27-2-1-3
^We’ll see. Fear can cause people to cling to what comforts them, or it can make them run away from everything they have known.

~C27-2-1-4
^It’s not something I think benefits society. I’m interested to see how the titans change people’s perspective on a higher power.

~C27-2-1-5
^I’ll tell my partner your thoughts. It should help with their paranoia...haha.

~C27-2-1-6
^Whatever we are doing, it seems off. I’m uncomfortable with the power we yield. I don’t trust myself.
