JAZ OR ZIP DRIVE USERS ------------------------- Once you reach the DOS prompt A:\ you will need to do the following if you have either an Iomega/Epson Zip SCSI or Jaz SCSI drive. Copy GUEST.EXE from your Iomega tools directory or disk to Lost & Found Disk 1. You can also run GUEST.EXE before you start Lost & Found in order to assign a drive letter to your Jaz and/or Zip drives. If you have an Iomega/Epson Zip or Jaz Parallel Port drive, you will need to keep your Iomega/Epson Zip Windows/DOS Install Disk handy. Upon reaching the DOS prompt A:\ you will need to remove your Lost & Found Disk 1 and insert your Iomega/Epson Zip Windows/DOS Install Disk. Type in "guest" and the program will assign your removable Zip or Jaz a drive letter. After the guest program has completed, re-insert your Lost & Found Disk 1 and start Lost & Found. 2. SYQUEST REMOVABLE DRIVE USERS -------------------------------- Follow the same procedure as for Jaz and Zip drives, but substitute VISITOR.EXE for GUEST.EXE. The SyQuest Sparc parallel drive is not supported at this time. 3. SCSI DEVICES --------------- For your convenience, we have secured a license from Adaptec, Inc. to provide ASPI drivers in case you have SCSI disks. Lost & Found will detect the drives and load the appropriate ASPI driver. Lost & Found will attempt to load ASPI4DOS.SYS, ASPI7DOS.SYS, and ASPI8DOS.SYS. If your SCSI card is not covered by one of these ASPI drivers, you will need to manually load the needed ASPI driver for your SCSI card. 4. DRIVE OVERLAYS ----------------- If your hard disk was formatted using Ontrack Disk Manager or Microhouse EZ- Drive, Lost & Found will notice and adjust accordingly. 5. RECOVERING FROM UNKNOWN AND HIDDEN PARTITIONS ------------------------------------------------ To recover files from FAT partitions that have been mistakenly labeled as an unknown type or simply hidden, choose to analyze the entire drive when given the choice. This will allow Lost & Found to analyze data stored in areas of the drive that aren't visible to DOS and don't have a drive letter. 6. KNOWN ISSUES --------------- A. Unknown partition types on the destination drive --------------------------------------------------- When a destination drive has an unknown partition as its first partition, Lost & Found may incorrectly see that drive as having a damaged partition table. The drive can then be selected as a destination drive and the disk analysis will run, but when the disk analysis has completed, Lost & Found will return an error. A workaround for this is to select a different drive, if possible. B. Floppy issues ---------------- The root directory and FAT are not being found or used on 3.5" floppies. All files found will show up in yellow (possible recovery). If a 3.5" floppy has no subdirectories on it and only files stored at the root, Lost & Found may not find any files on the floppy or report that none of the files can be recovered. C. Compressed backup savesets ----------------------------- When making a compressed backup saveset, the remaining capacity field will flash between the real capacity and a false number. At the end of the process the correct number will be displayed. This will not affect the recovery. D. Systems with more than 64 MB of RAM -------------------------------------- On systems with more than 64 megabytes (MB) of RAM, Lost & Found will incorrectly display the amount of memory available in the bottom right corner of the screen. This is due to the DOS extender that we are using to enable a 32-bit environment under DOS. This will not affect the recovery. 7.
