INTRODUCTION

Thank you for playing Atchafalaya Arcade! This ROM is both a game about my recollections of Louisiana, and a series of three newly designed Game Boy instruments:

Mosshboard, The Mossy Drum Machine
Bayoulens, The Harmonious Riverside
Oakcordion, The Mellifluous Evergreen

SETUP

Atchafalaya Arcade is a Game Boy ROM that can run on vintage Game Boy hardware, as well as any device that can run a Game Boy emulator. Computers, phones, you name it. Here are some emulators I recommend!

BASIC CONTROLS

For text:

A moves the text forward in English.
B moves the text forward in Cajun French.

For instruments:

A and B make sound (and move the text forward).
The directional pad changes how those sounds sound.
Start moves to the next instrument.

(These buttons can be reassigned in your emulator's settings.)

ADVANCED CONTROLS

While playing an instrument, using the directional pad while holding Select changes default tempo in Mosshboard and default key in Bayoulens and Oakcordion.

Mosshboard: Select+Left or Right will increase and decrease the tempo by multiples of two. Up and Down will fine-tune your tempo.
Bayoulens & Oakcordion: Pressing select will play the tonic of the instrument's current major key. Select+Up or Down will move the tonic by half-steps. Select+Left or Right will move the tonic by fifths.

When playing Atchafalaya Arcade on a Super Game Boy, your sound may be out of tune with other Game Boy consoles and emulators. To correct this, hold Select at the title screen until the animation stops moving.

MULTIPLAYER

Two or more instances of Atchafalaya Arcade can be played alongside each other for multiplayer musical jams. All the instruments are designed to play well with each other, as well as with the vast gamut of existing musical instruments. Experimenting with different combinations is highly encouraged :)

While playing Bayoulens or Oakcordion with other people, hold Select to compare your key.
