Welcome to the J.K. Lasser's README file. This file contains
important information to be aware of as you begin using the program.

                    Obtaining Replacement Disks

Usually you receive one of these messages if you have a bad disk.

"General failure error reading drive..."
"Sector not found..."
"CRC error..."
"Bad sector..."
"Unrecoverable read error..."
"Address mark not found..."

To check your disks, use the DISKCOPY command to copy the entire
disk. DISKCOPY reports any bad sectors. (See your DOS manual.) To
replace defective disks, call Technical Support at 1-319-393-1425.
Within 30 days of purchase, we replace disks free. After this,
contact Technical Support for prices.

                         Technical Support

You can call Technical Support's voice number at 1-319-393-1425 if
you need help using the program. Representatives are available to
help you from 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. (Central Time) Monday - Friday.
Extended hours will be available in January.

                    Printed Forms and Schedules

As of the date of production, the IRS had issued some preliminary
forms and schedules. All other forms and schedules will be printed
on the 1993 forms. Keep in mind that all computations within the
program have been updated for the 1994 tax laws. You can review
these tax law changes using the Tax Law Update feature located under
the Advisor menu. Please DO NOT FILE any of the forms or schedules
generated from this HeadStart Edition of the program.

                         Startup Problems

If you experience problems starting the program, goto the Windows Control
Panel and select Fonts. Next, select TrueType and mark the "Enable TrueType
Fonts" check box.

                         Printing Problems

If you experience problems printing tax forms, one of these
suggestions may provide the solution to your problem:

1. If you are using Adobe Type Manager, select the "Print ATM fonts
   as graphics" option from the Adobe Type Manager Control Panel. If
   you continue to experience the problem, turn Adobe Type Manager
   off.

2. If you are using a Citizen 9-pin printer (Citizen 120D, for
   example), install the Epson FX-85 printer driver. If you are using
   a Citizen 24-pin printer (Citizen GSX-130, for example), install
   the Epson LQ-850 printer driver.

3. Obtain and install the latest version of the printer driver
   for your printer and select it as the default. Consult your
   printer manufacturer for the latest printer driver information,
   and refer to your Windows User's Guide for installation
   instructions.

                            Program Features

We have a few program features that we encourage you to use.
The Lasser's Guide will take you step by step through the entire
process of completing your return. Our Review Audits feature
displays problems with your return at the top of the screen, and
the exact field that needs to be addressed is displayed at the
bottom of the screen. You can make the corrections as you go.

Another feature included is a "Laser-emulation forms" option
for deskjet, inkjet, 24-pin, and postscript printers. This
option will allow your printer to print a laser quality form. We hope
